Court Activities in the Ohio Court of Claims



About the Ohio Court of Claims
The Ohio Court of Claims was created to hear claims against the state for money damages and to hear appeals from Attorney General decisions regarding claims filed under the Victims of Crime Compensation Program. The state includes the General Assembly, Supreme Court, offices of all elected state officers (governor, attorney general, auditor of state, secretary of state and treasurer of state), all state departments, boards, offices, commissions, agencies, institutions, and state colleges and universities. The Court of Claims also handles claims alleging the denial of access to public records by any government entity.

Incoming Cases

Includes all case types: 
  • Judicial cases (JD), claims in excess of $10,000;
  • Administrative determinations (AD), claims for $10,000 or less;
  • Victims reparations appeals (VI); and
  • Public records cases (PQ).
*Note that case data is incomplete between 1976-1984.  

Outgoing Cases

Includes all case types: 
  • Judicial cases (JD), claims in excess of $10,000;
  • Administrative determinations (AD), claims for $10,000 or less;
  • Victims reparations appeals (VI); and
  • Public records cases (PQ).
